Compact Fluorescent Bulbs

January 16th, 2008 · No Comments

The Swiss_Mouse has listened to Al Gore’s Nobel winning plea and is doing his part to save the planet.

No, not really.

The Swiss_Mouse’s electric bills are OUTRAGEOUS.  There are two bills that have hammered the mouse (The Mouse liked to be hammered, but not like this) since moving into his current abode.  Natural Gas and Electric.  His old house wasn’t even CLOSE to the steep bills he sees now.

Currently, thanks to his budget tracking spreadsheet, he can tell you he pays an average of  $202 a month on electricity!!!  His high month is August ($278 in 2007) and low month is $150 (November).  But something has to be done.

The Swiss_Mouse wants to put solar shingles on his roof.  Mrs. Swiss_Mouse disagrees.  Swiss_Mouse doesn’t have the cheddar to do it anyway.

But this month the Swiss_Mouse did something he hopes will help slow the bleeding.

He has replace all regular indoor floor lights in the living room, kitchen and bed room with compact fluorescent  bulbs.  Although they start off extremely dim they are only 65W as opposed to 120W.

He has already replaced most regular incandescent bulbs with compact, but he has an large amount of floods.

HERE is hoping that his bill starts to go down.  He can’t replace all his floods, he has a bunch downstairs that dim.  He hasn’t found dimming compact fluorescent floods, yet.  He also needs to replace about 10 more floods.

Jan/Feb/Mar bills last year were $195/$187/$166.  Swiss_Mouse will report back with his findings.
