Snow fell here this week. Schools out, tough to get to work, etc.
Hearkening back a few years…
Mrs. Swiss_Mouse has a relative that works for what used to be a company known as NPC.
A few years ago, just prior to DSL and Cable broadband becoming prevalent, a huge snow fall hit the Swiss_Mouse’s area. Swiss_Mouse mentions DSL and Cable, because, without them you literally had to be at your desk in order to get work done.
Luckily Swiss_Mouse’s company was wise enough to realize that there was nothing you could really do about the situation. Most companies in the area just shrugged their shoulders. Yes, it was a pain but what could you really do?
However the relative’s company had a completely different view on the situation.
They decided that their workers HAD to make it in, NO MATTER THE WEATHER. The formed a list of employees who had 4 wheel drive vehicles and assigned these employees as drivers who would pick up and deliver fellow employees to work in the event of a large snow.
What a completely asinine policy. Why? Because for one thing by instituting this policy the company was basically saying “we value work more than we value your safety and lives”. Oh, the Swiss_Mouse can hear the HR dept now “OH NO THAT IS NOT TRUE!” Bull, the policy stood for itself. It was self explanatory. The company would rather take chances with your life than lose a day of your work. Better yet the company even pushed the burden of responsibility onto the drivers of these vehicles! HOW COMPLETELY SHAMEFUL of the company to do this.
The age of highspeed internet has stopped these kind of policies thank God.
This was one of the most stupid corporate policies the Swiss_Mouse had ever come across.
