The Swiss_Mouse sleeps in his car almost every day.
Seriously.
What are the benefits? Well, first off, if you read up on it, “power naps” are suppose to help you! Maybe. Swiss_Mouse ends up being mighty groggy though. Not necessarily a bad thing. Depending on the day, the Swiss_Mouse gets in a 10 minute to 50 minute nap. All depends on if he remembered to bring something to read and how big a lunch he has. YES lunch is eaten in the car as well. Thus another benefit is realized. Saving money during lunchtime. The last benefit being the obvious: Less interaction with co-workers!
Mrs. Swiss_Mouse is always complaining “You are going to choke!” Yeah, well death is preferable to being a slave to the man.
I hear you ask, “Swiss_Mouse, how did this all start? What is the history?”
During Swiss_Mouse’s early career days, he went to lunch almost every day. Some days the lunch was cheap in the company sponsored cafeteria, other days eating out. Lunch was an hour and the cost was anywhere from $3 in the cafeteria (yes $3) to $8 eating out. The co-workers he went with usually spent more going out $8 to $10. THIS was every day. Figure 20 working days times $10, you are almost talking real money!!!
But alas, the Swiss_Mouse changed jobs. His new job was at a location that made going out difficult. And the restaurants were more expensive. So he took his lunch a lot…but…a pattern started emerge. Almost every day, in the middle of eating and reading, his project manager would show up! AND DISCUSS WORK! Lunch suddenly became impromptu meetings! The Swiss_Mouse literally could eat. And he wouldn’t stand for that.
So, one day, the Swiss_Mouse came upon an idea, he would go to his car and eat. Viola!
That is how it started. The Swiss_Mouse would eat in his car and would have 45 minutes to spare. So, a nap came naturally. When the mouse-lings came along, a nap was almost mandatory. For the next few years, rain, sun, heat, cold. It mattered not, the Swiss_Mouse at and slept in his car at least 3 to 4 days a week.
As his friends left for other jobs, the cycle became more like eating out 1 day every 2 weeks, other days in the car.
Staring yet another new job only reinforced this. Actually he was closer to a park and did walk, but his job was so horrid, sleeping was an escape.
Finally, his latest job. The Swiss_Mouse continued eating and sleeping, but finally got mad at himself for not reading. There was no time at night and he was too tired then anyway. So every day, he would read a chapter of a book and eat. Then sleep for 40 minutes. He has read all the Harry Potter series this way, the Da Vinci Code and numerous other books.
Mrs. Swiss_Mouse still says he’ll choke, but the Swiss_Mouse prefers the Oasis that is his car. It is truly a bit of paradise during the bleak work day.
