Cheddarblog

The Swiss_Mouse wasn’t going to turn the Cheddarblog into any kind truly personal blog that had anything to do with a subject other than making some cheddar. However he decided to start a category purely for rambling on about various subjects. He will try to keep it cheddar oriented. He promises.

The first musing:

Years ago the Swiss_Mouse began his career as a wide eyed young mousling. Eager, ambious, hard working. He always spoke his mind and was more than willing to walk the walk and talk the talk. Especially when it came to the work place.

The one brand of coworker he could not stand was what he calls “The Drone”. The Drone is the kind of worker who blindly obeys orders. The kind of worker who never questions anything, who never complains about stupid managerial decisions. Worse yet, the Drone has a standard response to almost any situation: “The paycheck is the same.”

The Swiss_Mouse always looked down on these individuals. Did they not feel that their opinions, their hard work, their ideas were worth more that “just getting paid”. Did their emotions never rise up? Anger or frustration over work situations? The response was always “The paycheck is the same.” Did they NOT value themselves and their work more?

Over the years, the Swiss_Mouse’s dis-stain for the Drone has diminished. Why you ask? Because the Swiss_Mouse has viewed too many situations that our out of his control, too many things in the work place that he wishes he could control but can’t. Coworkers promoted or praised for the most meaningless of work. Paper shufflers who cannot actually produce meaningful work, but nifty Powerpoint presenations, put on the fast track for success. Watching others take credit for work not their own, or being praise for work that was sub-par.

The Swiss_Mouse has taken too many steps in the direction of becoming the Drone. It has taken a long time, but the wisdom of the Drone is becoming apparent. Today, the Swiss_Mouse picked up his check…..and the paycheck was the same.
