The Power of the Budget

October 19th, 2007 · 2 Comments

The Swiss_Mouse had two incidents lately that have shown the power of defining and sticking to a budget.

First both of the Swiss_Mouse’s automobiles required service with 6 days of each other.  Total bill was $1000.  Most people would have to dip into the emergency fund.  However the Swiss_Mouse budgets for service and easily paid both bills, has money left over and will accumulate more soon.   Note however that on the second auto, the Swiss_Mouse told the service manager “no” on 3 different repairs that were needed but not necessarily immediate.  The Swiss_Mouse told him “No, have to save up the money first.”  Now the Swiss_Mouse needs the work done, soon.  However after a couple of paychecks his account will easily cover the bills.

Also recently Mrs. Swiss_Mouse went in for some surgery.  While insurance covered most of the bill, the hospital sent 2 different bills for a total of $400.  Once again, the budge money was ready and the bills easily paid.

The lesson is budget, stick to it.

      Hey Martin,

Hope your wife is doing ok. That is an awesome point that keeping a budget is crucial. Way to be on top of your game so you could cover those emergency costs.

      Sorry Matt,
You might think this is Martin (and the Swiss_Mouse knows who you mean) but it’s not.

Mrs. Swiss_Mouse is doing “ok” relatively, but more procedures await. The budget is holding steady and doing its job though.
